Sherwood Minimax Wood Lathe with Bed Extension and Stand 305mm Swing 750W 1HP

The Sherwood Minimax Wood Lathe is light enough to move around the workshop, but big enough to handle pretty much any turning job. The perfect machine for emerging woodturners, and for makers who need to add turning capability to their workflow.

The lathe is the beating heart of the woodturner’s workshop. A reliable lathe works tirelessly to enable you to transform your ideas into reality. It is your trusted partner in the creative process.

Especially developed with Australian turners in mind, Sherwood’s comprehensive range of lathes delivers power, precision and reliability across every size category. Supported with a wide range of compatible accessories and backed by a five-year warranty, a Sherwood lathe is your ideal workshop companion.

Sherwood Minimax Wood Lathe 305mm

The Sherwood Minimax Wood Lathe bridges the gap between the Mini and Midi series lathes, giving you the best of both worlds in one convenient and reliable package.

With all the features woodturners want at an affordable price, the Sherwood Minimax Lathe has serious capacity and 750W of power at spindle speeds of up to 3500rpm. It is easily mobile and tucks away beautifully in a garage, but best of all, it's built tough for guaranteed reliability.

The optional Bed Extension allows you to create spindles up to a whopping 1380mm long!

Ready for Lift-Off

It has a solid cast-iron bed suitable for absorbing vibration, delivering rock-solid performance. And you’ll be ready to go right out of the box, because this lathe includes a face plate, spur drive, live centre and knockout bar and tool rest! Every fitting on this lathe is specifically design to fit the industry-standard morse tapers and threads, and unlike some of its larger competitors, it excels when performing at its maximum capacity.

Electronic Variable Speed

When you need the best possible level of control to optimise your accuracy and eliminate speed-related tear-out and chatter, then EVS is essential. Forward and reverse settings allow you to hollow out your projects with ease, keeping eyes on what you’re doing, as well as allowing the cleanest finish. The power is in your hands.

Quick repositionable levers

The convenient lock handles allow you to quickly readjust the settings of your lathe as needed. They can even be tightened further than factory settings if the locking is not tight enough for your needs.

I’m a complete novice YouTube

I’m a complete novice YouTube inspired beginner.
It is a scary piece of machinery to use for the first time but if you follow the safety advice from YouTube videos you’ll be okay.
The manual that comes with the lathe is very generic and not particularly helpful for a first time user.
Also the description of the item doesn’t clearly state, in my opinion, that you have to make a belt change to reach the higher speeds on this lathe. The suggestion that it is variable speed implies that simply by turning the dial you can select the full range of speeds on the lathe without this extra step.
That being said…it works great and is an amazing amount of fun to use.
All the staff at Timbecon Melbourne have an amazing amount of knowledge about the equipment. Don’t be afraid to admit you are a beginner as then they will give you the advice a beginner needs.
YouTube videos are an amazing help.
I think a few more Timbecon videos going into more depth on each specific model of equipment, and linked in to the description for each piece of equipment, would be an awesome idea for first time users and help make a first time purchasers choice a lot easier and quicker.
I love my lathe and evert time I use it I get better.
Get started, get educated, and every time you turn it’s like you have performed magic even just making a big old dowel.
