That’s why the Sherwood 8in Slow Speed Bench Grinder is purpose-built to run at just 1400RPM, preserving edge temper, reducing the risk of burning, and delivering cool, clean grinds. With premium white aluminium oxide wheels, cast-iron stability, and high-torque motor performance, this grinder is the ideal companion for sharpening chisels, plane blades, and carving tools.
A cast-iron base anchors the grinder solidly to your workbench, dramatically reducing vibration and enhancing accuracy. Crystal-clear perspex eye shields provide better visibility and added safety during grinding tasks. Grinder includes a 70 x 40mm and 85 x 40mm tool rest - making it a pleasure to use out of the box.
Slower Speed
Unlike standard 2800RPM grinders, this model runs at 1400RPM, significantly reducing friction heat during sharpening. This protects the temper of your high-speed steel (HSS) and high-carbon woodworking tools, which are more heat-sensitive due to their dense molecular structure.
High-Torque 4-Pole Motor Delivers Smooth Power
Don’t be fooled by the wattage, this 375W (1/2HP) 4-pole induction motor provides twice the torque of standard 2-pole units. That means you get steady, controlled grinding pressure without stalling or excessive vibration.
White Aluminium Oxide Wheels
White aluminium oxide is the industry standard abrasive for sharpening woodworking tools, cutting cooler, wearing evenly, and reducing the risk of glazing or burning your tool’s edge. This grinder includes two professional-grade wheels for shaping and finishing:

its what i wanted for ages very happy next will be CBN wheel
All good service was good.wood like more eg catalogue on chisels and different chuck types etc.of which would save heaps of search andsite scanning.
Grinder works well and sharpens tools effectively without heat buildup. After 2 months switch burnt out but was replaced quickly under warranty.
Installed both grinder and gouge sharpening jig and so far the tools I have sharpened have performed as expected.
I like the slow speed as the HSS tool does not get as hot compared to the older 150mm grinder I used previously.
